Charges due must be paid in advance.

Note: For classes eligible for a refund, the refund policy requires you to call at least one week in advance to cancel. Refunds will be issued, less a $10 administrative fee.

WK Prenatal Classes
Education is critical as you take this new step in your life. The Willis-Knighton Prenatal Education Program is designed to help guide expectant parents through this exciting phase of their lives. If you are a mother, father or grandparent anticipating the arrival of a new baby, please take a few minutes to review the Frequently Asked Questions before selecting classes. This section includes guidelines about when the classes should be taken, who should attend and other helpful information. Please contact the Prenatal Education office at (318) 212-2556 if you have any questions or need additional information.
 
Breastfeeding Class
An in-depth review of breast-feeding for new or experienced mothers. You will learn benefits of breastfeeding and proper techniques to hold and latch your baby. This class is taught by Internationally Board Certified Lactation Consultants. Register to take this class at week 27 or later. Includes the book, "Breast-feeding: A Great Start," and a light meal.

Registration Information: The mother should register under her name and complete the special areas on the enrollment screen for prenatal classes. This class is "per couple", so one enrollment covers the mother and companion.

Build a Better Body for Your Baby
This class, instructed by a Willis-Knighton dietitian and physical therapist, should be taken within the first trimester (first 12 weeks of pregnancy). Attendees will learn proper nutrition, exercise and lifestyle changes for each trimester of pregnancy. This prepares mothers-to-be for the physical and emotional changes experienced during pregnancy. This class is for expectant mothers only. A healthy meal is included.




Childbirth Preparation
An in-depth childbirth education series for mother and companion. Class meets once a week for three weeks. Topics include the anatomy of the changing body, labor and birth information, use of breathing and relaxation techniques, comfort measures and postpartum adjustments. Register to take this class at 24 weeks or later. For mothers expecting multiples, register to take this class at weeks 20 to 24. Includes: Book, "The Gift of Motherhood: Your Personal Journey through Prepared Childbirth" and a healthy meal. Participants should bring two bed pillows to the first class.

Childbirth Preparation Express
An abbreviated version of "Childbirth Preparation", with information condensed into a one-day class. The class reviews the anatomy of the changing body, labor and birth information, use of breathing and relaxation techniques, comfort measures and postpartum adjustments. Register to take this class at week 24 or later. If expecting multiples, take class at weeks 20 to 24.

INCLUDES: Book, "The Gift of Motherhood: Your Personal Journey Through Prepared Childbirth." Breakfast and lunch are provided. Participants should bring two bed pillows to the class.

Grandparents Class
This class is offered to grandparents who want the latest information regarding care for the newest addition to the family. Grandparents learn updated information on newborn care, safety in the home, emergency procedures and establishing a positive relationship with the new grandchild. Grandmothers and grandfathers are encouraged to attend. Light refreshments are provided.

Registration Information: A separate registration is required for each grandparent attending.

How to Strengthen the Core During Pregnancy
Strengthening your core during pregnancy minimizes back pain, reduces incontinence, helps mom push during labor and rehab more quickly after the baby is born. Learn through demonstration and discussion: safe and effect core and pelvic floor exercises, abdominal exercises to avoid during pregnancy and the neutral spine and why it's important. Fitness Center membership is not required.

Infant/Child CPR
American Heart Association Family & Friends CPR is ideal for new parents, grandparents, caregivers and others interested in learning how to save a life. The course includes infant and child CPR and relief from choking. (Light snack provided)

Newborn Care
Newborn Care offers information on what to expect from delivery through infancy. Participants will learn basics of diapering, bathing and safety. Register to take this class at week 27 or later. The book "The Joy of Parenthood: Your Personal Journey Through Newborn Care" and a light meal is included in the fee.

Postnatal Abs: Core Restore
Many new moms are anxious to get rid of the "postpartum belly" after giving birth. Resuming intense exercise too quickly can be detrimental to restoring the body to its pre-pregnancy state. In this class, learn proper exercise techniques, body alignment, posture and five safe and effective exercises to help flatten and restore your core. Fitness Center membership is not required.

Prenatal Tour (Bossier)
REQUIRED for patients delivering at WK Bossier Health Center

This class includes anesthesia education and information regarding the epidural process. Couples get a first-hand look at the patient rooms and areas where care is provided to mother and newborn. It includes a walking tour and the opportunity to pre-register. To ease the process of pre-registration, please bring the completed patient preadmission form (located in the Prenatal Education Book), a copy of your driver?s license and a front and back copy of your insurance card. Register to take this class at week 26 or later.

Prenatal Tour (Pierremont)
This class gives couples a first-hand look at the patient rooms and areas of the hospital where care is delivered to mother and newborn. Information covers admission procedures and what to expect as a patient. A walking tour is included and mothers can pre-register at this time. Prenatal Yoga
Learn therapeutic yoga postures and breathing techniques that help you connect with the needs of your mind, body and spirit for each trimester. This gentle yoga session will alleviate many pregnancy discomforts like nausea, swelling, back pain and more. Discover peaceful meditation while toning and energizing your body. Six week session. Fitness Center membership is not required.

Siblings Class
This class is for soon-to-be brothers and sisters ages 3 and up. Topics discussed include what the baby will look like, preparation for taking the baby home, what to expect from a new baby and how to help mom and dad. Children will receive "Our New Baby...and ME!" coloring book and tour the nursery and postpartum unit. Each child should bring a stuffed animal or doll to participate in diapering and swaddling. This is recommended for children whose mothers are at week 26 or later. A parent must attend with the child. Light refreshments are provided.

Registration Information: A separate enrollment is required for each child. This class covers both the child and the parent. It is not necessary to enroll the parent. PLEASE ENROLL ONLY THE CHILD.

Teen Pregnancy Healthy Steps
This class for young moms is designed to help prepare them for the challenges of pregnancy, delivery, emotional changes and caring for baby. Participants may bring a companion or support person.

Registration Information: This class is "per couple" so one enrollment covers the mother and companion. The mother should register under her name and complete the areas on the enrollment screen for prenatal classes. If the mother is attending alone, just type ALONE in the field for the companion. If a companion is attending with the mother, type that person's name in the companion blank. Please enroll ONLY the mother.

WK Pregnancy Fit
A total body conditioning class for expectant moms to help prepare you for the "sport of motherhood." Cardio, strength training, core and pelvic floor conditioning, yoga-based cool down and an active relaxation segment are included in this class. Physician approval is required to participate in this six week session. Fitness Center membership is not required.
